KARA joins PETA for Armani Fur Protest PDF Print E-mail

KARA participated in another anti-fur protest with PETA at noon on Saturday, December 20, 2008. This time the target was the Giorgio Armani's main Korean store in Seoul's trendy Apkujung district. There were about 5 or 6 photographers from the press, as well as members of KARA, jostling to take photos.

Armani has said in the past that he would not use fur, after being shown what really goes on in the fur industry, but apparently he no longer cares. He is back to his old ways, designing and selling fur fashions again. Armani's position means horrible lives and cruel deaths for countless numbers of rabbits.

Hence, the protest featured a Christmas theme with a rabbit dubbed "Santa Paws" holding a "Armani: Peace on Earth to All - Ditch Fur" message (in Korea on one side and English on the other).

The person in the rabbit suit was from KARA and the other girl was from PETA. The guy in the suit was from PETA and was the spokesman for the event. The main action was to go into the store and deliver a DVD of a fur farm investigation to the store manager and announce an opposition to Armani's use of fur.

Once that was done, the protesters positions themselves at the front of the store so the press could take photos. At this point the store manager-- presumably having gathered herself together after the surprise protest--came out to remonstrate against the performance. She threatened to call the police.

Frustrated, she soon when inside and did indeed call the police. Meanwhile, everyone continued taking photos. At one point the PETA spokesman said a few words to camera.

After that the photo opportunities continued and eventually the press left. The KARA and PETA crew then began heading off. That's when the police turned up. They just asked a few questions and everyone was very civil before parting company.

Hopefully, it will be a very slow Christmas for the Armani store in Apkujung, and Armani stores everywhere. Armani is in no way ignorant of how cruel and barbaric the fur industry is, so his continued support of it is a disgrace.

He buys rabbit fur from China, a country with a terrible reputation because of its lack of animal protection laws. In China, rabbits are crammed into filthy cages, their short lives coming to an end when they are shot with electric stun guns multiple times. It is brutal, morally wrong and totally unnatural.

Many fashion designers are fur free now--including Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger--but not Armani. He supports cruelty, and anyone like that, who puts profits before ethics, does not deserve any well wishes this Christmas.

Armani your a savage if you don't care what these poor animals suffer, can I come and skin you alive just so you know how it feels for the poor animal, do you want to give up your skin for fashion I bet you don't then leave the animal skins where it should be on the animal, I will not buy anything with your name on it and I am advising everybody I know not to buy your products.

Yeah, he's a liar and a scumbag. He's just typical of so many corporate money grabbers. I like the ad PETA made about this and they used just the right photo to add a Pinocchio nose to, as shown in this article: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/alltherage/2009...
