Cafe Birds N Bugs is a short walk from Seoul City Hall Plaza, near Ewha Girl’s High School. The cafe is the kind of place where you see female office workers during weekday lunch hours and young people in the evening and weekends.

On Saturday, December 20, 2009, this is where KARA members attended a charity function organized by the Sweet Brier Lab (HaeDangWha Lab) at Kyewon Art University to raise money for animal welfare. A number of KARA's founding members were at the event.

The proceeds from that event were consigned to KARA to distribute as necessary. A generous anonymous donor also contributed an extra 2 million won to the cause.

The owner of Cafe Birds N Bugs, who is a KARA member, transformed the cafe for the evening. You can see her there, top left, near where stacks of books were for sale. Besides books, a number of artworks were for sale, as well as trinkets and decorative objects. Girls in cute black hats decorated by herbs were present to sell the donated items.

There was plenty of wine to go around and a buffet meal, which everyone enjoyed, after a round of speeches.

Early in the evening a surprise guest arrived to soak up the atmosphere and indeed add to it. Yes, it's a dog, not a polar bear!

After the meal was over and the evening was drawing to a close, it was time for business, and this is when door prizes were drawn and the final tally of the evening's fund raising was announced. Amazingly, a total of 5,000,000 was raised for the cause of animal welfare!

Congratulations all round on a successful evening. Everyone had a great time and it was for a good cause.
