On May 22 and 25, 2010, KARA presented a screening of the documentary The Meat Dog, Guidong. It was mainly for invited members to say thanks for all their hard work.
The Meat Dog, Guidong tells the story of Guidong, a stray dog that is believed to have escaped from a dog farm or slaughterhouse. She had a tight wire collar around her neck that was causing a skin infection. While roaming as a stray she'd been beaten with a club by a couple of men, during which one of her legs was broken, never to heal properly. She escaped from them to the mountains, where she stayed until she was befriended and fed by an old lady in the area.

Eventually, after gaining her trust, the old lady was able to give Guidong shelter and medical treatment. As it turned out, Guidong was pregnant and gave birth to pup's in the old lady's home. But as time went on the old lady could no longer keep Guidong at her house. KARA member Professor Kang was asked if she could adopt Guidong, but at that time she was already looking after 10 other dogs and it just wasn't possible.
So Guidong was sent to a shelter where she stayed for about 6 years. News got back to Professor Kang that Guidong was sick. At that point, Professor Kang felt she had to do something. She had to make it up to her, and so she brought Guidong into her home for nursing and care.
Unfortunately, Guidong had developed cancer and her condition deteriorated. She died in her sleep. But in the brief time she had with Professor Kang, she could finally experience what a true home was like, where she was loved and cared for. The documentary is about this final part of the life of Guidong, whose history reminds us of the hardships and misfortunes endured by stray dogs and refugees of the dog meat industry everywhere.

The KARA girls set up a front desk to field questions and receive donations.

It generated a fair bit of interest.

Professor Kang talks to the KARA girls.

After watching and remembering Guidong, Saerom from KARA, Professor Kang, and the director of the movie, Han Jeong Won, talked about the documentary and how they felt while making it.

They then answered any questions from the audience.

Afterwards, everyone visited a dog photo and art exhibition.

This photo essay above features KARA's Director with two of her dogs.

Below are some of the artworks that were on display.

Ready to head home after a successful screening and exhibition.
