On cold Sunday morning, January 15, KARA’s volunteer medical team visited the Association of Korean Companion Animals shelter for our first shelter work-day in 2012. As well as vets, a group of school students joined in.

This was our second visit to Association of Korean Companion Animals. Our first was in August last year. Animals are fairly well treated at this shelter compared to other private shelters. There is a high rate of animal adoptions, too. However due to the increasing number of animals entering here, a lot of help and support is still needed.

This girl was rescued on the day KARA arrived for voluntary work. Her hair was seriously tangled, so she was in need of a shave.

KARA Helps Struggling Yongin Shelter PDF Print E-mail

dec2011-yongin-shelter-5

On December 18, 2011, KARA's volunteer medical team visited a small shelter in near Yongin city.

It has approximately 40 dogs living there, most of whom are middle or large sized.

dec2011-yongin-shelter-1

The conditions are not very good and the old man who runs the place has been having trouble providing enough food for the animals because of its high cost.

dec2011-yongin-shelter-3

Our medical team of volunteer vets conduct spay surgeries, while a couple of volunteers with shaving skills trimmed and showered the dogs. Some of them had very heavy and tangled hair.

Other volunteers covered the front of each cage with clear plastic for protection from the cold winter winds.

One of the hair trimmers, Miss Lee, also brought a bag of dog clothes for the dogs to keep warm in winter.

As well as putting up plastic, volunteers carried out general clean-up and maintenance work.

Many dogs were skinny and the owner said he cannot afford to feed them more them once a day.

dec2011-yongin-shelter-7

So, we have decided to commit some of the donations received through KARA English website towards helping to feed these dogs.

dec2011-yongin-shelter-11

We will probably send a large load of food to this shelter in January, 2012.

Thank you all for your donations and support, and thanks again to the medical team!
