Kimpo Shelter, Home to Abandoned Pets PDF Print E-mail

On December 11, 2011, KARA's volunteer medical team visited a shelter in Kimpo to conduct surgeries and vaccinations. It houses approximately 80 dogs, most of whom have been abandoned and left at the shelter.

A few days ago, the pups pictured above were left with their mother at the Kimpo shelter. Not a good start to life, although they are lucky not to have ended up on a dog farm.

Apart from the pups, most dogs at the shelter were abandoned after spending around 2-5 years with a human family. What a shame people fail so miserably in their commitment.

While volunteers cleaned up outside, veterinarians conducted spay and neuter surgery on the dogs.

After surgery, the animals were vaccinated to prevent future diseases.

Those not scheduled for surgery were also vaccinated.

The dog below had a bad tumor that needed treatment and she was moved to a veterinary clinic.

And this one in the box is under treatment for heart worm.

She was moved to a veterinary clinic, too. After worm treatment and spay surgery, she'll be returned to the shelter.

As well as cleaning up and surgeries, KARA delivered dog food sponsored by the companies Natural Balance, Purina, Natural Core and Eukanuba. Thanks to all the sponsoring companies!

These lovely dogs are waiting for foster or forever homes. Please contact KARA for more information on adopting.

Next year, the KARA medical team is planning to revisit the shelter, possibly in March or April, to complete the surgery on the remaining dogs.
