Many thanks to the Beautiful Foundation for deciding to expand to include the supporting shelter animals. They donated nearly 70 million won ($70,000 US) to the KARA Medical Service Team, which will cover one year’s expenses, plus a brand new van to travel to shelters around the country. Thank you, Beautiful Foundation!
The money will cover things like transportation cost, medical equipment, grooming costs, and spay and neutering operations.

The Medical Service Team's cool new van!
On May 15, 2011, the newly formed Medical Service Team went on its first shelter mission to Maseok Shelter.
Setting Up

Once everything was set up, our vets got together and talked about how to go about performing all the operations that needed to be done that day.

Operations
Most of the surgery done was neutering.

The dog below was in very bad condition when she came to the shelter. She has dislocated gull bladder, gallstone in the liver, and heart and liver problems. She doesn’t have much longer to live and will have to be put on low-protein, low-sodium diet.

One of the vets took her for an urgent operation. We’re looking for someone who will adopt for the remainder of the time she has to live.
And another sick dog needed to get one of his eyes taken out. He will also be operated on by one of our vets.

Grooming
Grooming is much needed since summer is just around the corner!

Celebrity Helpers

Actress Cho Yun-Hee is seen here with a lovely dog called Soo Lim. Yun Hee does a lot of volunteer work and is a regular supporter of animal shelters. She’s currently living with 5 shelter dogs she adopted!

Here is movie director Bang Eun-Jin (in the yellow cap), who’s been a long time member of KARA. She assisted with the grooming.

Of course, KARA's Director Soonrye Yim was on hand as well, making sure everything was going as planned.
Cute Pups

One of the pups of an abandoned dog who gave birth at the shelter. He is so tiny and precious.

One of 5 pups from another abandoned pregnant dog.
Lunch

Finally, lunch time! Lunch consisted of kimbap, ramen noodles, bananas, Choco Pie and yogurt!
Donations
Part of the service is to deliver donations.

Vets from Osan American Army Base sent these bags of kibble.

Monthly gift from Natural Balance.

Treats from Shared Garden.

Good Morning Pet sent ear clearing solution and kibble.
Finishing Up
After everything was finished, we had a little ceremony where people gave congratulatory speeches, took pictures, and volunteer members could finally relax and socialize.

The Medical Service Teams first mission was a great success, the first of many more to come!
