On Saturday, June 13, KARA member B.K. Zang received a frantic call from another KARA member, Hyekyung Lee, that factory workers across from her residence were beating up a white Baekdu (like a Jindo dog).
She had called both the police and Mr. Zang for help. Mr. Zang rushed to the scene and found the Baekdu dog cowering under a building. As seen in the pictures, the dog has a wire around its neck and a bloody mouth from biting at the wire to get free. The wire is also fed through steel piping.
Obvious in some distress the dog was trying to hide in fear.

The police and Mr. Zang asked the workers what they were doing to the dog. The workers replied that they were not trying to kill the dog for eating, but were trying to catch it after it had escaped from its cage. This sounds like a lame excuse. The tight wire around the dog's neck, fed through a steel pipe, could be a preparation for hanging.
The supervisor at the factory was given a warning that any cruelty was unacceptable, and that they had better take better care of the dog. They were told he was not to be beaten or eaten. Unfortunately, the dog was left there with the workers after the reprimand.
Some KARA netizens on KARA's Korean site were distraught that the dog was left behind. However, the dog abusers have been served a warning and they now know that they are being watched and that something will be done if another report is made against them. In any event, the dog was saved for now from more abuse.
Update - August 29, 2009:
You'll be pleased to know that this factory dog is one lucky guy!

This is his new house, custom made by KARA member Dongho Han. The factory dog was rescued from the factory, and the metal cage he was living in, and now has a new home with none other than his rescuer, Hyekyung Lee.

Over the top of his new home is a hand painted sign with his new name, something to mark a new beginning and a new and better life: "행복이=HAPPY."

As anyone who knows her will tell you, Hyekyung is a strong and tenacious woman. We congratulate her for rescuing the poor guy and finding someone he can live in safety. It isn't much, but it's a home.
Even though he's safe now from the scum that brutalized him, Happy is a frightened and traumatized dog. He still won't accept those people with good intentions. Hopefully in time he will realize there are good people in the world.
