Rescue from Suffering in a Korean Puppy Mill PDF Print E-mail

Recently in the US, the Missouri counties of St. Louis and Jackson endorsed Prop B, the Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act designed to stop the cruel and inhumane treatment of dogs in puppy mills. In time, such laws should spread across the US and stop some of the worst abusers, such as Amish communities, from continuing their cruelty.

Unfortunately, nothing like that law is on the horizon any time soon in Korea. That will mean the continuing suffering of dogs hidden away in dark cages until they are discovered and rescued, if ever.

Here are some dogs recently rescued and that will be cared for by an animal advocacy group in Korea called the Korean Society for Animal Freedom. The pictures are from B.K. Zang's blog.

This old and sick Maltese has spent her life in a cage, forced to give birth 3 times a year for 7 years.

If she had not been rescued she would have ended up as dog meat. In Korea, when puppy mill dogs are too old for breeding they are sold for dog meat.

To save this Maltese, an acquaintance of B.K. Zang bought her for 100,000 won. He has been collecting money to help with her medical treatments.

puppymill_rescue6

She was suffering from severe bed sores, since she cannot move properly from the waist down after so many births. Her situation has been no doubt rather painful.

This other dog only had the use of one leg. All the others where damages or reportedly "cut."

puppymill_rescue3

On the ground, she can't move.

It is not known what can be done for her.

Update, October 16, 2010

Unfortunately, the Maltese has died. According to rescuers it was obvious she was in a bad way and her health and possibly organs were failing. She had a wretched life and could not live long enough to enjoy her freedom. The Schnauzer, on the other hand, is doing very well. It is still unclear how her legs were and are damaged and in what way to fix them.

The Maltese at the vets, in a bad condition.

My heart bleeds and I cry for you wonderful people tackling this enormous problem, trying to make a dent in this extremely shameful problem of human cruelty and greed. Their sweet faces say it all: How could you do this to us? Why are the good people so few and far between? Why do most people do NOTHING to help us?
They are helpless and at the "mercy" of evil scum without good people...the apathetic masses need to finally stand up and help the situation here. A few people cannot handle this alone. ALL puppy millers and animal abuse profiteers need to be SHUT DOWN permanently. People have got to STOP buying anything from stores that sell purpose bred animals for profit. THEY ARE NOT THINGS!!!!!!

It breaks my heart to see these poor animals and the way they are treated, I don't understand why it is so difficult to put a stop to this. I would just go in and blast the heads of of the people who are treating the animals like this they don't deserve any consideration and remove the animals and anybody caught with a puppy mill would get the same treatment. It has to stop for the sake of the animals.
