Here is Goesan Shelter, recently visited by KARA on a fact finding trip. Dogs are in the house and the yards and buildings beside it.

Lots of dogs! There are about 150 altogether. Different rooms in the house have dogs. One small bedroom has 2 cats.

In the picture below, about center, is a small Chihuahua. This dog just stays in the corner by itself and reportedly has a mental problem of some kind. It was probably mistreated in the past.

Out in the yard, the dogs have plenty of space to run around.

The woman below is the shelter owner and does all the work. Because the shelter is a bit far away from everything, it doesn't get any volunteers.

The shelter was begun by this woman and her husband, who are both in their 60s. Her husband still works on road construction jobs. He's often out on the road for weeks on end. That's what pays for the shelter. Sometimes their son sends money.

The bigger dogs are kept out in a yard and shed section of their own.

The dogs below are a family and they stay in their own little area.

Like all the dogs at the shelter they are healthy and happy.

This guy is a problem because he bites people, so he has to be kept in a separate caged area.

Saved from a dog-meat seller, this guy reportedly has a great personality and is thriving in his new home.

A number of dogs have eye infections that need seeing to.

The dog pictured here came to the shelter with a skin disease which has been very hard to cure.
The KARA reps confirmed what the shelter needed in terms of medical help and food supplies. In coming weeks, I will hopefully be able to report back on deliveries made to the shelter and perhaps even a volunteer trip.
