Vegetarian Food Products Watch PDF Print E-mail

We're happy to promote any company that makes vegetarian meal products beyond what you can readily find in any Korean supermarket.

If people support these products, then companies will keep making them and more companies will start making them. Investment in them will improve. Flavors and textures will improve. More and more people will choose them as an alternative to the cruel and inhumane cost of factory-farming.

It's all about promoting cruelty-free food.

There are basically two main vegetarian food companies in Korea. One is Vegeland and the other is Vegefood

You can see the basic range from Vegeland here. For an overview of the Vegefood selection, see here.

Of course, I have not tried everything, but here are a few selections of what I've found to be the best out of what I have tried. They are in no particular order. Most of them are ideal for anyone who is busy and has prepare quick and convenient meals.

vegburger

First, these Vegan King vegeburger patties from Vegeland are very good and quick to cook. I like them cooked in olive oil until they are golden brown. Then I have them just as people would a regular meat burger. On their own, the texture is light and not really substantial. But in a  bun, with a regular burger filling, the taste seems enhanced and almost indistinguishable from a meat burger.

vegsausage

The Vegan King sausages are less successful, in my opinion. Their texture is somewhat gummy, a little too chewy. But cooked crisp on the outside, they are nonetheless and good accompaniment to a potato and mushroom dish served with chili sauce.

vegpatty

My next choice is from Vegefood and is another kind of vegetarian patty but of a miniature variety. These are different in color and texture to the Vegan King burgers. I always like them with a grilled tomatoes and mushrooms. Like the Vegan King burgers, these can be kept frozen and cooked quickly in a fry pan.

Vegefood has quite an assortment in this range, including franks, burger, nuggets, etc.

vegsteak_mushroom

Vegefood brings out three varieties of canned foods and the best for me is a kind of steak and mushroom combination. If there is any criticism, the portion is comes in is too small. I use it as a base mix and add more to it, such as extra mushrooms or even peas. This cannot be beaten with peppered baked potatoes.
